Volunteering is at the Hollies is the heart of what we do. We pride ourselves on providing a supportive, nurturing environment where volunteers not only help us support those we work with, but can also grow and realise their own potential.

From learning new skills, making new friends, to giving back to our community - there’s lots of reasons to get involved. Our volunteer roles vary throughout the year,  there's something for everyone! 

  

Could you help write the next chapter of one of East Lothian's most valued community charities?

For over 62 years, The Hollies has been a lifeline for older people across Musselburgh and surrounding areas, helping to tackle loneliness and social isolation while providing warmth, friendship, nutritious meals and practical support to those who need it most.

Today, we're entering an exciting new chapter.

We have ambitious plans to build on our proud history, strengthen our long-term sustainability and expand the services we provide to our community.

We're now looking to appoint 3–4 new Trustees who share our passion for making a difference.

Every day, we see the difference that connection makes.

Our Lunch Club supports people over 60 who may be isolated, recovering from illness, living with frailty or experiencing dementia-related conditions. Many are referred by local GP surgeries and East Lothian Council Social Work teams.

Our free accessible minibus brings clients safely to The Hollies, where they enjoy a nutritious three-course meal, companionship and a welcoming place where everyone belongs.

Over the last year alone, we've increased the number of people we support by 50%, and demand continues to grow.

The Hollies is much more than a Lunch Club.

Our thriving café welcomes hundreds of visitors each week, many of whom also benefit from the social connections it provides. Our community hub hosts local organisations, charities, veterans, writers, musicians, markets, celebrations and community groups, creating a vibrant space where people of all ages come together.

Together, these activities generate income that helps sustain our services while strengthening community life.

As we continue to develop, we're particularly interested in hearing from individuals with experience in:

· Fundraising, income generation or grant funding

· Strategy and organisational development

· Operations or business management

· Finance or accountancy

Previous Trustee experience isn't essential – training is provided and existing Board members are on hand to support.

What matters most is your willingness to contribute your knowledge, ask thoughtful questions and help guide the future of a charity that makes a genuine difference to people's lives.

The Hollies has exciting opportunities ahead.

Alongside growing our services, we're progressing a long-term programme to improve and modernise our much-loved community building, ensuring it remains sustainable and fit for future generations while continuing to meet the needs of our local community.

As a Trustee, you'll help shape our strategic direction, support good governance and play an important role in ensuring The Hollies continues to thrive for many years to come.
